Just a little randomness

Fall Break is here! I am so glad I do not have to make lunches, sign folders, get clothes & backpacks ready. Can you say no HOMEWORK - yeah!! We are enjoying a slow morning of getting ready to spend the day with my parents. I am so thankful they are only 45 minutes away now and that we can see them often.

I have been meaning to share this since last week. Leah made this top for her little girl in 5 easy steps (cute huh!). Since I do not have little girls I thought I would share it with those of you who do. Let me know if you make it - I'd love to see it.
Lastly, go over to Karen's blog to see one of the most ridiculous-craziest-obnoxious sights I have ever seen. Let me just say I am glad I have boys. ;o)

Enjoy your day!!

What I did with my morning

It is a cloudy day in North Texas and our household is sick. Our 8 year old stayed home from school (he is running fever now), the baby has fever and a very sad cold in his eyes and the three year old is stuffed up but no fever yet. Poor Jeremy started feeling bad this morning, but he could not stay home because he had too much going on at work. I have not ran fever since Tuesday, but just can not regain my energy. I am tired of being stopped up and coughing all night. Enough of my whining, back to my cute boys. Even while sick they have good attitudes and smiles on their faces. Boy, do I need to learn a thing or two from them.

My morning consisted of:
~Emails. I do not work, but I always have so many emails to respond to each day.
~Cleaned out my inbox.
~Emails in my inbox containing recipes I posted on my Recipe Blog. Warning only one of them is low cal/low fat - a yummy salsa. This one, this one and this one are really good if you are not on the diet adventure with me - give them a try! :o)
~After posting I found this life wasting site called Blogthings. I learned some things from the quizzes I took like...
If a quiz asks you for your month and day of your birthday and it says it can tell you what you are like, don't trust it. The description of me could not be more wrong - see for yourself.

Your Birthdate: November 3

You are more than a big ball of energy - you are a big ball of hyper.
You are always on the go, but you don't have a type a personality.
Instead of channeling your energy into work, you instead go for fun and adventure.
Witty and verbal, you can have an interesting conversation with anyone.
Your strength: Your larger than life imagination
Your weakness: You tend to be pretty scattered
Your power color: Lime
Your power symbol: Lightening bolt
Your power month: March

Okay, it did get right that I have a big imagination, but I would not say it is my strength.

Apparently living in Texas my whole life does not qualify me as a true Texan.

You Are 52% Texas

At first, you seem Texan... but just because a chicken has wings don't mean it can fly.

How Texas Are You?

I found out if I ever to take the test to become a citizen of the USA, I would pass. Good to know.

You Passed the US Citizenship Test

Congratulations - you got 8 out of 10 correct!

Your 80s Hunk Is

Kirk Cameron

Who's Your 80s Hunk?
This is right on the money! Quick story - I loved Kirk!! My obsession was strongest in 7th and 8th grade. I never missed Growing Pains. My walls were completely covered in pictures of Kirk. I was such a dork. Anyway, my dad was called to a new church in the middle of my 7th grade year and we had to move. While packing my mom told me I had to take all my pictures off the wall. She started helping me and the first one she tried to take off would not budge. She asked me what I used to to put them on the wall. I used glue! My mom was so mad at me, but I do not remember her going ballistic on me (thanks mom). I do remember her making me peel off each picture (there were so many!!) and they would come off in tiny little pieces. The walls were left in such a mess because of the glue and the pictures would not come completely off. I am sure my parents did not get the deposit back on the rent house (sorry). I was also heartbroken that my pictures were ruined. Moral of the story - do not hang things with Elmer's glue!

Well now after posting this it is the middle of the afternoon. Now that I have confessed all the time I have wasted today, I need to take advantage of my kids napping and go clean out my closet. We have so much to do before the realtor comes on Monday - time to get busy. I hope your morning was more productive than mine - how could it not have been?

Quirks and Super Bowl Wrap Up

Congratulations Giant fans - what a game!! Last night we watched the game with a bunch of friends who checked their Cowboys' jersey at the door (for the night only) to wear a Giants' one. The fourth quarter was so exciting and for awhile, you would have thought we'd been Giants fans our whole lives.

The commercials (in my opinion) were not that great. But the one that stands out this morning is the Planter's Cashew commercial. I think she could stand to read my eyebrow post - what do ya think? We had a fun night.

I was tagged by His Girl for a MEME - thanks for the tag. Speaking of HG, she has a great post that I think everyone needs to read. Take the time to go here, scroll down to the 7th paragraph and start reading. Only 31 days - very scary - you will understand once you read it.

On to the MEME...

Here are the rules:
(1) Link to the person that tagged you.
(2) Post the rules on your blog.
(3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
(4) Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
(5) Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

Here we go!

1. I cannot make myself drink milk that is a day past the “sell by” date. The times I have I swear it tastes old. Silly I know, but that is why it is called a quirk.

2. I can only start something new on Mondays - it is a must for me. Examples: If I am starting a diet and exercises routine - might as well have those extra mashed taters because I am starting Monday!

3. I ALWAYS doodle when I am on the phone. Not just any doodle, I draw arrows.

4. I obsess when I leave the house about whether or not I closed the garage. If I do not watch it close, I will drive back home and check. Of course it is always closed.

5. I cannot go to sleep at night if I have not put on face moisturizer, lip balm and hand lotion.

6. I get the willies when I see clusters of Starlings (blackbirds). While we were dating Jeremy was watching a movie about birds that were trying to kill people and ever since then they just gross me out. See for yourself - creepy right?

So now I am supposed to tag a few people. I tag Leah, Karen, Tamora, Amy and JennWa - play along if you want - I would love to read your quirks.

Off to make a stew/chili for a Women's ministry meeting tonight. I am making the Soup Nazi's (remember the Seinfeld episode?) Mexican Chicken Chili recipe. Did you know that the character is based on a real place and guy? You can eat his soup here. Here is a little laugh for ya.

Singing - "The Eyes of Texas are upon you..."

I thought this picture was funny. All the men in my life took their hats off and lined them on this chair when we got home. For more Wordless Wednesday pictures go to 5M4M.

2007 Thoughts

Hi everyone!!
I hope that each of you have had a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends. I have enjoyed spending time away from the computer and with my family. I have much to share and will start posting about my time away later in the week. I am looking forward to catching up with all of you through your blogs as well.

I could not let 2007 leave without saying goodbye. Over at Bleeding Espresso, she invited us to play along and complete this end of the year MEME, so I thought it would be a good way to reflect on my year.

What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
Tried Polenta and Grits (now I am hooked - loved 'em!)
First hotel stay by myself
Started my Blog

Did anyone close to you give birth?
No births in 2007 - but friends/family due in 2008

Did anyone close to you die?
Jeremy's Uncle Kenny died (March 17th). I was not able to attend the funeral with him, but I am so glad that he and his brother were able to be with his mom and dad in Arizona. His Uncle was in his 60's and had been paralyzed from the neck down since the age of 21 (water skiing accident). Kenny was a very strong Christian and a tremendous inspiration to everyone who met him. What an amazing sight it must have been to see him walk through the gates of heaven.

What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The first one that comes to mind is our baby's first birthday - October 19th.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Overcoming my fears of the blog world and becoming more technically savvy to start my own blog.

What was your biggest failure?
Not getting all my "baby" weight off (I've been collecting it since my first pregnancy in 2000).

Strep throat/flu last January - not fun!

What was the best thing you bought?
Digital Camera

Where did most of your money go?

RX for baby
Milk (we should buy a cow!!)

What do you wish you’d done more of?
More constant time with God
Work out
Have more patience with my boys :o(
More date nights

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Lose patience with the boys
Let the year go by without making the most of each day

What was your favorite TV program?
The Office
Chuck (new fav)

What was the best book you read?
Just Walk Across the Room

What was your favorite film of this year?
Sadly, we spent 2007 catching up on movies from 2006 (favorite of '06 Amazing Grace). We saw only a handful of '07 movies, here are some that I enjoyed or that left an impression on me from 2007. Can't wait to see Becoming Jane.
National Treasure - A Book of Secrets
A Mighty Heart
Breach
The Kingdom

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
35 - it was a great birthday - read about it here

What kept you sane?
Dates with Jeremy
The new babysitiing place!
Weekly Bible study with the ladies
Blogging and reading blogs

Who was the best new person you met?
I enjoyed meeting all my new friends in the blog world and am looking forward to getting to know you better in 2008. In real life, I have made a lot of friends at our new church and just like the bloggers am looking forward to getting to know them better over the coming year.

Finally, not resolutions, but goals for 2008:
Make daily time with God my first priority
Work out and lose ALL the weight!(Hold me accountable - ask me how it's going!)
Get middle son completely potty trained (still no #2 action in the potty!!)
Be intentional about getting together with friends and family
Try to cherish each day and not let the year pass by so quickly

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Anniversary

Saturday is our 12th anniversary. Jeremy's parents offered to keep the boys (thanks!) so we can go out tomorrow afternoon. Yeah! Jeremy, I thank God for you! I look forward to growing old with you and all the many adventures ahead of us. I love you!

I found this at Leah's blog, so I decided to borrow some of the questions. Thanks for humoring me and letting me share about our special day.

Where/How did you meet?
You know this- Glorieta summer of 1993 (introduced by Ty)
How long after you met did you start dating?
1 month
How long did you date before you were engaged?
2 years
How long was your engagement?
6 months
What is your anniversary?
December 22, 1995
Where was your wedding?

Cake, punch, nuts and mints
What kind of cake did you serve?

Only change one thing - the photographs/photographer.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Eureka Springs, Arkansas (1 week)
We spent our first Christmas in a secluded sweet cottage - very special that it was just the two of us. To top it off we had a lot of snow!! That was very magical to Texans, as we are not sure from year to year if we will be wearing coats or shorts at Christmas!!

DeLyn - Middle Name Game

My friend Karen has tagged me for my first MEME. So here goes...

Rules: Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. When you are tagged, you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged & to read your blog!

D Date Nights - love spending time with my husband kid- free
E Enjoy traveling - so many places I dream of visiting someday

L Latte - grande non-fat (sometimes vanilla) latte - so good
Y Yummy- italian food - my weakness
N Night Owl - always get my second wind after 10 pm

Now I am suppose to tag some blogging friends- I don't have many yet so I will tag two - Leah and Tamora. Have fun.
