Influence

Isn't this bow gorgeous? I do not have bow making skills, but my mom does, she made this bow for me while they were here at Thanksgiving. I love driving by and looking at it - it is just so pretty.

This blog entry is all about my mom and a woman I know she would be honored to share this post with - but we will get to her a little later.

I just love these two pictures. The first one in the sweet pink dress, with those amazing dark eyes and darling curls. The second, is her senior picture and in my opinion she is breath taking.

There are so many things I could share about my mom, but these few will show you a glimpse of who she is to me.

~ We had a beautiful, cozy and nurturing home. She has an eye for decorating and making gorgeous flower arrangements. When she wraps gifts, they are almost too pretty to open. We always knew we were loved and encouraged to follow the path God laid out for our lives. Thank you for all the unconditional love Blaine, Bruce and I alway felt (and still feel)!

~Our home was decorated for every holiday and season. My mom's most favorite holiday of all is Christmas! Our house was stunning from the day after Thanksgiving until January 2nd. It was fun to have people over to show off my mom's handy work.

~My mom was given the voice of an angel. While I was growing up, my mom sang at church and she honestly gave Sandi Patti a run for her money. When she sang "We Shall Behold Him" I knew God had to puff with pride because His child was singing for His glory.

~Boy does she love sweets - the sweeter the better. She enjoys things like divinity, fudge and maple candy. So in her honor, you can go here to find an easy fudge recipe.

Someone who played one of the most significant roles in shaping the lady my mom became was my grandma. I use the word lady on purpose, because that is exactly the example that they were to me growing up. They were both gracious, encouraging and dignified in all circumstances and honored God in their actions and words. I am thankful for their example of faith and that they taught me to love Jesus.

Yesterday would have been my Grandma's birthday, she has been gone many years now and I still miss her deeply, but I am so thankful for the tangible reminders, as well as the memories that I cherish in my heart. Since recipes hold memories for me, I will share a couple with you. My grandma was a fabulous cook, but these three desserts stand out when I think of her.

Yum Yum Cake

Special K Cookies

Ice Box Cream Pie

Mom - Thank you for being there to love me, wipe tears, offer sage advice, and always being my cheerleader. I know Grandma (& Pa Pa) were very proud of you. Happy Birthday Mom - I love you!

What a beautiful, lovely post. I am so glad to read of a grown child who loves her mother still. It seems bitterness takes over the hearts of far too many adults who miss out on the beauty of a relationship with the person whom God chose to point us on the path He had chosen for us.
I will indeed find some chocolate in honor of these two cool ladies in your life :)It'll be a tough task, but what choice do we have if we want to be honoring?

ps- how funny that I too felt led to write about my Grandma on her birthday! it's amazing how moving memories are, and how strong an influence they have on our lives, no?

Mom- thanks for your sweet words! I am very thankful for all the special woman in my family.

HG- I am truly blessed to have a good relationship with both my mom and dad. Mom & I bumped heads when I was a teen - but it would have not been normal if we hadn't! I have to say now though that she was right most of the time! :o) Why do does it take us so long to figure that out? Hope you enjoyed your chocolate!

Great post!

So much to be grateful for.

One of my favorite verses:
"I praise you for a heritage of those who fear your name."

A lovely tribute to one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. I grew up with your mother & dad, and knew your grandparents. All were very good people. I'm glad that their best qualities will carry forward through you to another generation.
